Daily Bible Study

45 From noon until three o'clock darkness covered the whole country.46 At about three o'clock Jesus shouted out loud, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”47 When some of those standing there heard it, they said, “He's calling for Elijah!”48 Immediately one of them ran and grabbed a sponge, soaked it in vinegar, put it on a stick, and gave it to Jesus to drink.49 But the others said, “Leave him alone. Let's see if Elijah will come and save him.”

Matthew 27: 45-49
